Savonnerie du Midi is one of the last historical soap factories in Marseille to perpetuate the recipe and know-how of traditional Marseille soap.
La Corvette is the corner stone brand of Savonnerie du Mini.
Supplying to retailers throughout France as well as a signature range for the French Navy, La Corvette is a household name.
Steeped in history, Savonnerie du Midi is located at the bottom of the Carme’s valley, in the Aygalades district in the 15th arrondissement of Marseille.
Commitment to Quality and Tradition
For more than 120 years, the Savonnerie du Midi has been manufacturing Marseille soaps in the traditional way, of which La Corvette is a supreme example: a blend of history, heritage and expertise, often imitated but never equaled.
Traditional recipes using only vegetable oils, free from chemical additives, artificial colourings, synthetic fragrance as well as preservatives, are adhered to ensuring premium quality under pinned in age old tradition.
Marseille Soap
Genuine Marseille soap has to meet specific criteria in order to get the seal of approval set forth by the UPSM (the Union of Marseille Soap Professionals) of which La Corvette – Savonnerie du Midi is a founding member.
Authentic Marseille soap contains only 4 ingredients: vegetable oils (72% minimum), soda, water and salt. It is always free of coloring agents, perfumes and preservatives.
Cooked in a cauldron, according to the Marseilles process and under the supervision of a master soap maker.
Raw Marseille soap can be recognized by its cube shape. The soap is engraved with “72% oil” and bears the name of the soap factory that makes it.
